Farewell, Perry – A Very Special Palo Alto Donkey

Memorial service Sunday, February 2, 2:00 p.m. at Bol Park

Perry, a donkey who spent many of his thirty years at Bol Park in Palo Alto, has died. Children and adults alike had the pleasure of getting to know Perry during his weekly Sunday outings at the park. The community embraced this special donkey and his gentle presence.

Perry came to fame as the model for Donkey in the animated Shrek movies, a wildly successful franchise. Perry has been featured in the New Yorker magazine and the New York Times. Though he was paid a small bit for his modeling work, he has been unacknowledged officially on screen, and Stanford students have attempted to get the movie makers to provide a screen credit. Come on, DreamWorks—pony up! In the meantime, Perry may be blissfully grazing a heavenly fare, sharing a pasture with his other departed equine friends somewhere in the sky.
