New California Legislation: Animal Abusers Could Soon Be Publicly Listed
California is considering a new law that would require individuals convicted of animal cruelty to be added to a public offender registry. The legislation aims to increase accountability and make it easier for communities and organizations to protect animals from repeat offenders.
This law, if passed, would be a significant step in supporting animal welfare and ensuring that those who harm animals face long-term consequences.

Kitten Season Is Coming!
Spring means warmer days—and an influx of tiny paws! Kitten season is just around the corner, which means shelters and rescues will soon see a dramatic increase in newborn kittens.
Now is the perfect time to prepare: consider fostering, donating supplies, or spreading awareness about spaying and neutering. Every effort helps ensure these vulnerable kittens find loving, permanent homes.
Students Explore Compassion and Pet Ownership
We loved visiting East Palo Alto Academy earlier this month for a special student-led presentation on compassion and pet ownership.
Students Elizabeth and Andrea, mentored by Project HumaneKind, created a thoughtful and informative project exploring the connection between pets and mental health, as well as the responsibilities that come with caring for animals. From reducing stress and loneliness to understanding the lifelong commitment pets require, their work highlighted just how meaningful the human-animal bond can be.

Coming This Summer:
Creative Creatures Camp
Compassion continues this summer!
Project HumaneKind will hold two separate special camps for young pet painters through the Los Gatos Recreation Department.
Through Creative Creatures, students will spend a week creating artwork and portraits of animals housed at the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority shelter. Young artists will explore watercolors, mixed media, and sculpture with professional art teachers Vandana Pawar, Zohreh Safdari, and Manisha Chawda, all the while learning to become humane advocates. There are two separate weeks available in June to choose from.
