John Hale, the “Reptile Guy,” Visits Hillview Middle School

In conjunction with our Pet Painters program, art students at Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park and their teacher Anna Kogan recently welcomed John Hale and an assorted and colorful reptile “cast of characters” for a fun and spirited learning experience. John introduced the students to the following cast members:

Vince – a Red-footed Tortoise

Hoppy – a Crested Gecko

Jabba the Hutt– a Spiny-tailed Lizard (also called a Uromastyx)

Fruit Loop – an Arizona Mountain King Snake

Inky – an Eastern Indigo Snake (plus the skin he shed)

The students peppered John, who is a long-term rescuer of reptiles and presenter in schools throughout the Peninsula, with questions about these animals’ origin, diet, and particular habits. The students were also able to photograph the reptiles and will use their photos to create portraits that we hope to display soon.
