Autumn Is a Season of Transformation

Autumn Is a Season of Transformation

As the leaves begin to turn, we are reminded that transformation isn’t just for the outdoors—it happens in every act of compassion. This September, join us as we celebrate what it means to step up for those who can’t speak for themselves. We invite you to read about a kitten whose life has been transformed through kindness and compassion.

Tiny Kitten, Big Hope: Lucky Gets a Life

Meet Little Lucky. Found utterly alone, her umbilical cord still attached, she came into the world in need of everything. When Lucky fell ill shortly after birth, our rescue partner Peninsula CatWorks reached out, and Project HumaneKind answered the call and contributed to her treatment. Through dedicated veterinary care, round-the-clock fostering, and a community rallying behind her, Lucky pulled through. Today, she is safe, thriving, and has found a home—with feline and human friends who adore her. Lucky’s journey is a testament: transformation is possible, even when the odds feel overwhelming.

Legislative Watch: Animals and the Law Right Now

Autumn isn’t just a time of falling leaves—it’s a season of turning points in policy too. Here are proposed laws we’re watching closely that will affect the lives of animals. You can reach out to your federal and state legislators to ask them to support these bills. Your voice matters.

  • URGENT. Measures that California voters approved to protect farm animals are being threatened in Congress. The National Pork Producers Council and China’s Smithfield Foods are lobbying Congress to pass the deceptively named Save Our Bacon Act and the Food Security and Farm Protection Act. These bills are designed to strip states of their authority to adopt and implement the most important farm animal welfare laws in the nation.
  • Glue Trap Prohibition Act, introduced by Congressman Ted W. Lieu of Los Angeles County, would place a national ban on the use of glue traps to catch rodents. Glue traps—boards coated with adhesive—are among the cruelest ways to eliminate rodents. Groups such as National Geographic and Wildcare advise that glue traps are also devastating to small wild animals and pets. And the CDC asks Americans not to use glue traps because of the potential of exposure to rodent viruses.
  • Better CARE for Animals Act of 2025 (H.R. 3112 / S. 1538). A federal bill aiming to strengthen enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act, it would provide more tools for civil action, animal seizure, and penalties when significant violations occur.

Foster Spotlight: Meet Sprout and Cilantro

Introducing Sprout and Cilantro, two tuxedo brothers with curiosity in their paws and mischief in their whiskers. These brothers are currently in foster care with a wonderful friend of Project HumaneKind, and they’d love nothing more than their very own home.

Favorite Things:

  • Bird watching
  • Chasing toys
  • Cuddling with their bud Finn (resident cat)
  • Being absolutely certain nothing fun goes on without them—they’ve got FOMO!
