🎃 October Pet Safety Tips

Halloween fun can sometimes be frightening for our furry friends. As you enjoy the season, keep your pets safe and stress-free with these quick tips:

🐾 Keep candy out of reach – Chocolate and artificial sweeteners can be toxic to pets.

🚪 Create a quiet space – Costumes and doorbell rings can be overwhelming, so give pets a calm retreat.

🕯️ Decorate safely – Keep candles, cords, and decorations away from curious paws.

🐈 Adopt thoughtfully – Black cats deserve love year-round. Please don’t adopt based on holiday aesthetics—choose adoption for life, not for a season.

🐾 Meow You’re Talking

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed bills cracking down on puppy mills and banning declawing of cats when not medically necessary. These laws build on the administration’s prior work to improve animal welfare. AB 519, by Assemblymember Marc Berman (Menlo Park), stops third-party brokers from selling cats, puppies, and rabbits bred for profit. California also now bans the practice of declawing cats when not medically necessary. Many other countries also ban the practice, which can lead to pain, infection, and behavioral changes. These new laws help ensure pets are treated humanely and safely. 🐶🐱

🐾 Who Is Your Spirit Animal?

In many traditions, a spirit animal is seen as a personal guide—offering insight, protection, and connection to the natural world. These totems serve as reminders of the traits we carry within and the ones we’re called upon to embrace. As we move through the Halloween season and into a season of love, may these symbols remind us of the magic within nature and the deep connection between all living beings. Join us at Hearts and Hocus Pocus for the opportunity to explore animal totems. More to come!
